  • Dry needling is a skilled physical therapy technique where a thin, sterile needle is used to target tight or irritated muscles (trigger points). The goal is to reduce pain, improve movement, and restore normal muscle function by addressing the root cause of discomfort.

    • Reduces Pain: Dry needling helps calm overactive muscles and reduce pain by improving blood flow and decreasing muscle tension. Many people notice relief quickly, especially for stubborn or chronic pain.

    • Improves Mobility: Tight muscles can limit how you move. Dry needling helps muscles relax so joints can move more freely- making daily activities and workouts feel easier.

    • Supports Performance: When muscles move and fire properly, you move better. Dry needling can help improve muscle activation, movement quality, and overall performance.

  • Dry needling is commonly used for:

    • Muscle tightness and trigger points

    • Neck, shoulder, back, and hip pain

    • Headaches related to muscle tension

    • Sports and overuse injuries

    • Limited mobility or stiffness

  • Most people describe dry needling as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. You may feel a brief ache, twitch, or pressure in the muscle, which typically subsides quickly. Your therapist will communicate with you throughout the session to ensure your comfort.

  • It’s normal to experience mild to moderate muscle soreness, tightness, or fatigue in the treated area for 24–48 hours, similar to post-workout soreness. Some people feel immediate relief, while others notice improvements over the next 24–72 hours as the muscle relaxes and movement improves.

To support recovery, we recommend staying hydrated, doing gentle movement or light stretching, and avoiding intense workouts for 24 hours. Heat or ice may be used based on comfort. Mild bruising can occur but is uncommon and typically resolves within a few days.

If you experience severe pain, unusual swelling, redness, or symptoms lasting longer than 72 hours, please contact your therapist so we can check in and guide you appropriately.

  • Dry needling may not be appropriate for individuals who are:

    • Pregnant (certain areas)

    • Have a bleeding disorder or are on certain blood thinners

    • Have a needle phobia

    • Have active infections or open wounds in the treatment area

Your therapist will review your health history before treatment.

  • Yes. Dry needling is safe when performed by trained, licensed physical therapists using sterile, single-use needles. We perform a thorough assessment to ensure dry needling is appropriate for you.
